Abstract

In this study two single and one mixed catalyst i.e 3%Ca,5%BL and 3% Ca +5% BL were supported on three kinds of Fuijian Anthracite i.e Longyan , Fenghai and Youxia coal and two Pakistani lignite Lakhra and thar coal char. The catalytic effect of these catalyst were investigated in  steam gasification atmosphere under temperature 750°C to 950°C and 700°C to 900°C for Fujian anthracite and Pakistani lignite char at ambient pressure by thermal analyzer. In case of Chinese anthracite the mixed catalyst as compared to single catalyst is accelerating the carbon conversion and the gasification reaction C+H2OCO+H2 due to presence of alkali surface compounds [COM], [CO2M] and exchanged calcium phenolate and calcium carboxylate (COO)2 . While high carbon conversion achieved by direct gasification of both Pakistani lignite chars because high ash content is forming complex with black liquor catalyst .The addition of CaCO3 into BL is enhancing carbon conversion and an effective desulphurization action is achieved at below 900°C both Fujian anthracite and Pakistani lignite char. The above information would be beneficial for choice of best catalyst concentration, an ideal catalyst in steam gasification reaction, it indicates that the black liquor plus calcium is a good, effective and economically feasible catalyst in coal gasification.
